Cabinet's encyclopedia "Curiosity and Method" coming out soon

Dear friends of Cabinet,

As you might know, we are about to release a rather unusual book. Cabinet somehow managed to make it to its tenth anniversary, and to observe this surprising milestone, we are publishing a beautiful, illustrated encyclopedia culled from a selection of texts and projects featured in the magazine's first forty issues.

The encyclopedia, which comes in at a whopping 528 pages, has some unusual entries, including:

Addiction
Animal Architecture
Camping
Cryptogastronomy
Dentistry
Goalkeeping
Levitation
Loser
Micronation
Napkin
Negation
Otolith
Sandal
Syncretism
Umbrage
Uniformity
Worlding
Zoosemiotics

But there's more! We've have also commissioned seven new essays on topics near and dear to our hearts, including Collecting (Barbara Benedict), Attention (Lorraine Daston), The Everyday (Jeff Dolven), Pranks (Anthony Grafton), Listening (Daniel Rosenberg), Curiosity (Justin E. H. Smith), and Pleasure (Marina Warner).

If you'd like to see some sample pages and a video preview, please visit here.

The US cover price of this hardcover book is $40, but it is available directly from us for $33 + shipping ($5 in the US). We do expect it to sell out, so we recommend placing an order soonish if you think your coffee table needs it. We think that some of your family and friends might also be pleased to find the book in their stockings, come holiday time. (Note: the book weighs approx. 6 pounds and will rip most stockings.)

To order copies of the book, visit here or call us at (718) 222-8434 (note that hurricane Sandy did a number on our office and we are currently operating via a jerry-rigged phone; please leave a message if we don't pick up and we'll call you back asap). If you have any questions, please email shop@cabinetmagazine.org. And apologies in advance for the shipping rates for foreign subscribers; the quotes we got from our bulk mailer for sending a 6-pound book abroad turned out to be quite a bit more than we had hoped.

Thank you for reading.
